Dressed more like an eccentric investment banker than a restaurateur, Jack Lamb (who began his culinary career at Bouley Bakery) runs what is arguably the hippest sushi restaurant on the planet. Fortunately, he cares about the quality of the fish he serves, and if you follow his suggestions, he will personally deliver a few dishes to your table, while bragging that his is only one of two or three Japanese restaurants in the country serving that particular specimen. While our rating doesn't place it in the top New York City sushi echelon, a surprising number of reviewers say it's their favorite place to eat sushi in the city. A good wine program, a benefit of sharing a space with Degustation, is another huge plus, though oenophiles are also offered the option of bringing their own.
