After years of working in some of Miami’s best kitchens, Michelle Bernstein decided she wanted to open a restaurant of her own. In 2008, she and her husband David opened Michy’s, where she puts her own spin on traditional comfort food. Some dishes are given a Latin twist, like a snapper Francese that Bernstein pairs with a mojo beurre blanc. In other instances, Michelle likes to ramp up the intensity of flavors, like a squid ink handkerchief pasta topped with a shellfish nage and some of the fattest local prawns you have ever seen. “Homey” is an apt description of Bernstein’s cuisine, with one reviewer describing Michelle’s cooking as "what your mother would have liked to serve if she really knew how to cook."
