Every major U.S. city seems to have a restaurant that is compared to Chez Panisse, and our reviewers have nominated Lucques for that honor in Los Angeles. Opinions of Suzanne Goin's market-based cuisine vary. Some reviewers rave about dishes like carrot soup with yogurt and green harissa or braised beef short ribs with sautéed greens, cipollinis and horseradish cream, while there were a few who left disappointed, given the national reputation that Goin enjoys. But then, there is a third contingent that says the best way to enjoy Lucques is to see it as a "high-quality neighborhood place" with "top-flight, ingredient-based cooking." A number of our reviewers told us they enjoy the set-menu Sunday Night Suppers, which often are supervised by Goin herself. |
