For 20 years, from a spot on Central Park South, the legendary Tony May catered to an older, monied and sophisticated crowd of diners at his elegant San Domenico. But with a move to Madison Square Park and with May's daughter Marisa taking on a greater role, and Matteo Bergamini replacing Odette Fada behind the stoves, the restaurant has reinvented itself, as a younger, looser place (as suggested by the symbolic name change). Now you are more likely to see the place filled with fresh-faced lawyers and bankers with attractive women in tow, enjoying dishes like wild bass aquapazza with zucchini and tomato sarda fregola. Reviewers talk about food that is "better than one would imagine," considering that the front room has become one of the hottest pickup scenes in the city. |
