R. J. Cooper intended to communicate two things to his customers when he named his restaurant Rogue 24. The first is that he considers his cooking to be outside the mainstream of what you will find at most other restaurants. The other is that you will experience his cooking over a 24-course extravaganza. Despite the proffer, the fact is that over the course of the evening, the cuisine Cooper features varies from dishes that seem to come straight out of the elBulli handbook to the type of cooking you might see in a less ambitious New American place. One more thing that could be described as rogue is the location: a warehouse in an otherwise deserted part of town, which allows the restaurant to occupy a space considerably grander than one might expect from a place serving this type of food. |
