Much has been written about the Chases, who, after Hurricane Katrina struck, lived in a FEMA trailer across from their restaurant. Now in her 88th year, Leah Chase still works the stoves, turning out classics like shrimp Clemenceau as well as fried chicken that one reviewer described as "crisp, moist, plump, greaseless and entirely delicious," while Dooky sits in the restaurant's vestibule greeting their customers. Leah Chase is as passionate about art as she is about food, and the restaurant's elegant dining room - filled with beautiful contemporary African-American art - is worth a visit on its own.
