The road to Slade and Allison Vines-Rushing's restaurant runs through some of New York City's top kitchens. But now that these Mississippi and Louisiana (get the name now?) expats are back home, they are busy pleasing diners with their "Southern food with an elegant, modern twist," like oysters Rockefeller "deconstructed" and roasted rack of lamb with black-eyed pea purée, roasted okra and tomato jam. While comments like "the food is well-conceived and well-crafted" indicate that reviewers generally like the cooking, the experience is dragged down by an "unexceptional dining room." |
