Set in a converted coffee shop in the Highlands section of town, Ned and Jodi Elliott’s restaurant is exactly what you imagined an Austin restaurant to look like. Ned’s menu is filled with the kind of eclectic gastropub fare that hipsters love, like venison heart tartare with a confit egg yolk; slow-poached beef tongue sliced and dusted with flour before being fried and served with spiced yogurt; and a squid and wild boar cannelloni with ricotta, cherries, chilies and mint. Jodi contributes tasty desserts like lime gingersnap tart with pumpkin-pie ice cream and toasted marshmallow. Comments are predictably positive: “inventive and always on”; “the dishes seem far more complex than the sum of the ingredients”; and “the Gruyère popovers are reason enough alone to go.” |
