After spending 10 years working at places like Emeril's, Trio, Spring and Green Zebra, Michael Bulkowski and his wife, Debi, returned to their hometown and opened this delightful restaurant. Bulkowski drew inspiration from the food he ate while growing up - specifically, his Polish grandmother's cooking - to craft what he terms Modern Midwestern cuisine. The result? Dishes (local rutabaga soup with cranberry-cashew pesto, cinnamon-spiced duck meatballs with tempura squash and goat cheese and Lake Erie walleye with roasted cauliflower and farm-egg vinaigrette) that "single-handedly disprove the notion that you can't eat well in the Midwest." The interior is exceptional: Bulkowski and his wife have adorned it with mid-century-modern tiles, glass and fixtures, making it one of the few restaurants where "the décor is as hip as the food."
