One of the few prestigious Relais & Chateaux properties in the States, Colin Bedford's kitchen is located in a European-style country inn in the heart of the Research Triangle. Unfortunately, while dishes like North Carolina white shrimp served with Perry Winkle Farm potato salad or seared foie gras with cornbread madeleines, port and pickled shallot sauce are well prepared, the food "doesn't have enough pizzazz to make it truly interesting." On the other hand, "a lovely atmosphere," "friendly service" and "a decent wine list" make it a pleasant experience, especially if you're spending the night there. |
