Until Hugh Acheson opened this restaurant in 2010, if you lived in Atlanta and wanted to enjoy his cooking, you would have to make the 70-mile drive to Athens, Georgia. It’s sort of an amazing story. Canadian by birth, Acheson has done such a good job mastering the cuisine of his adopted region that reviewers offered such comments as “the kitchen has an amazing command of southern fare” and “this could be the best restaurant in Atlanta at the moment.” It’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The day starts with offerings like biscuits with fried chicken and scrambled eggs and moves on in midday to dishes like pork belly rice grits served with fava beans, grilled asparagus, charred spring onion, baby carrot and puffed farro; the dinner menu features dishes like Georgia trout with fermented pepper, preserved lemon, fingerling potato, mustard greens, wild mussels and chickweed. |
