Columbus' first stroke of luck came when Honda built a factory 30 miles northwest of the city. The second was when Ryuji Kimura, who had worked in a number of notable Japanese restaurants in New York, decided to move to Columbus and open a restaurant that catered to the plant's executives. And while the strip-mall location means that it looks no different from a half dozen other Asian eateries in the area, step inside and you will find what one reviewer called "a real Japanese restaurant." There's a printed menu, but hardly anyone orders from it; most diners take a seat at the counter and tell chef Kimura to do his thing. "Don't be surprised if you're the only non-Japanese person in the restaurant." |
