More than one of our reviewers would claim that the best representation of the new Los Angeles style of dining can be found at Josef Centeno’s Theater District restaurant. The cuisine is a funny mix of Latino, Middle Eastern, Italian and hipster eclectic; the result is tables covered with dishes ranging from a beef tongue schnitzel sandwich topped with harissa, smoked aioli and pickle to a flatbread studded with merguez sausage and then dotted with harissa and feta cheese, orders of Moroccan spiced fried chicken, and a platter of black rice and local squid with fine herbs and crème fraîche. It’s loud and fun, and the quirky food goes well with a carefully thought-out list of craft cocktails and artisan beers.
