It was more than ten years ago that Hemant Mathur first built his reputation as New York City’s best Indian chef. Since then, Mathur has cooked at a number of places, including Amma, which he followed up by running the kitchen at the trend-setting Devi, and finally his own restaurant, Tulsi. Regardless of the location, Mathur’s fans have stayed loyal, and they continue to enjoy creations like Mongolian cauliflower and tandoori lamb chops. Reviewers talk about the “Indian cooking at a very high level,” served by a “knowledgeable and generous staff.” Mathur’s wife, Surbhi Sahni, makes the desserts, which some argue are “the best desserts you will ever find at an Indian restaurant.” |
