Fans of Mario Batali’s flagship restaurant is still capable of turning out delicious versions of his classic dishes, like lamb's tongue salad or the signature mint love letters with spicy lamb sausage. One of the few restaurants where more people recommend the appetizers and pastas than the entrees, a sizable contingent of reviewers recommend "forgoing the mains entirely" and sticking exclusively to the starters and pastas. A tough reservation to come by, eating at the small bar at the front of the restaurant is popular with reviewers. Joe Bastianich's wine list is loaded with cherries and treasures, but at prices that make it seem as if the bottled are coated in gold leaf.
