Like their first restaurant, The Spotted Pig (see review above), this second offering from April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman is a continuation of the notion of dining as "a celebration of fat." But there's more to creating a successful restaurant than good intentions, and while reviewers are "happy to keep returning" for dishes like onion and bone marrow soup, lamb burgers and a pig's foot large enough to serve two, the restaurant doesn't manage to generate the same level of enthusiasm as its sister gastropub. Perhaps it's the execution; perhaps it's the location in the trendy Ace Hotel. In any event, in this instance the critical complain about "heavy, salty comfort food" that's "not worth waiting in line for." |
