Be sure to take your cholesterol medication before you pay a visit to April Bloomfield's homage to the British gastropub, where "every dish seems to be based on cream, butter or fat." After the "stupendous waits" (they don't take reservations), your pre-bypass meal might include chicken liver on toast, poached duck egg with lamb tongue and grilled skirt steak with summer beets and horseradish cream. The scene at lunch is much calmer, when the cuisine includes more casual fare: a bruschetta of mozzarella with summer squash or a Cubano sandwich. Bloomfield also serves "one of the most talked-about burgers in the city." |
