With an ambience and décor reminiscent of La Coupole, no other restaurant captures the spirit of 1930s Paris better than Balthazar. As in the brasseries of that bygone era, the mix of people it attracts transcends class, and on the right night the crowd will include tourists, suburbanites who got dressed up and ventured in for a night in SoHo and svelte fashionistas, slurping oysters side by side. The "food can be hit or miss," but everyone agreed it was much better than they'd expected. The service, the welcome and the "delicious bread from Balthazar Bakery" were uniformly praised. |
