Who would imagine that an Italian restaurant transplanted from Nantucket could capture the imagination of Manhattan's Upper East Side? The decor recreates the ambience of an Italian countryside inn, and the rustic fare includes a few modern touches, like English pea soup with crisp duck prosciutto and ricotta gnocchi with rock shrimp, broccoli rabe, raisins and lemon cream. When it first opened, it was so popular you needed to book a month in advance, but happily, an expansion into the brownstone next door has made obtaining a reservation easier, at least on weeknights - though tables before and after events at the 92nd Street Y (catty-corner from the restaurant) are still hard to come by.
