After running the kitchen at Zayatinya for José Andres, Top Chef Contestant Mike Isabella decided it was time to revert to his Italian roots. What sets the restaurant part from others using the same format, is a heavy reliance on local farmers, resulting in dishes like Amish chicken thighs with pepperoni sauce and roman gnocchi, and Bev Eggleston’s blade steak which is paired with honey and pimenton de la vera. And let’s not forget the wonderful pizzas that come out of Isabella’s wood burning oven, ranging from the simple pies – like one with tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil, something Isabella aptly calls the American Pie – to the Jersey Shore, which is covered with fried calamari, tomato, provolone, and cherry pepper aioli |
