Who would think that people would have make such a fuss over salumi? Well Cesare Casella that’s who. He closed his Park Avenue South restaurant, Beppe, and he bet the ranch on an Upper West Side trattoria that served twenty different types of salumi. But man can’t live on salumi alone, so Cassela added a half dozen salads, pastas and main dishes to his menu, which means you can follow your serving of Salame Calabrese with a bowl of pasta and bean soup or a plate of Tuscan spare ribs slow-cooked with Italian tomatoes, rosemary and garlic. The combination of the delicious food and a neighborhood where there are not many good places to eat means the place is “always busy.” |
