Willie Mae's Scotch House
New Orleans, LA
New Orleans, LA
Crisp on the outside and full of tender and steaming-hot meat on the inside: If anyone knows where you can find better fried chicken than what is served at this hole-in-the-wall located about a mile northwest of the French Quarter, do us a favor and let us know. Certainly our reviewers, who say things like "I can't imagine being in New Orleans without having at least one lunch here" and "an institution in the very best sense of the word," haven't been able to. The non-chicken eaters can opt for smothered veal or a fried pork chop that was described as "not too shabby either," all of which which you can enjoy with sides like red beans and rice, potato salad or "a succulent plate of butter beans and greens." The modest lines mean you can expect a short wait for a table and, since the chicken is cooked to order in a frying pan, you can also expect a short wait for your food.
