In business since 1919, Casamento's is the home of the oyster loaf (basically two thick slices of bread holding anywhere from a half dozen to a dozen fried oysters). It also offers a loaf with shrimp, fried trout or catfish. Other specialties include oysters on the half shell (some say they're the best in the city) or in a milk-based stew, along with a few Italian specialties like fried calamari or spaghetti and meatballs. The long lines can be oppressive, but once you get within eyeshot of the dining room, you will find yourself in front of the oyster shucker and you can pass the time by slurping up a few dozen.
