Expect to encounter a long line at this triangular fast-food stand in South Philly where Pat Olivieri is credited with inventing the cheese steak sandwich back in 1930 and where, to their credit, "they still turn out a decent sandwich." The controversy at Pat's has always been their policy of limiting the cheese toppings to Cheese Whiz. But that hasn't reduced the length of the lines. Being open 24 hours a day clearly adds to the allure.
